"Appetites" Series, 2013

The "Appetites" series explores the contrived nature of Western food advertisements in terms of spectacle and excitement.

The disjointed suspended motion of food exploding alludes to a latent violence in food production.

The oversaturation of color, the high-key close-ups of juicy meat cuts, and explosive action of food adverts appeal to those who have been raised by these kinds of images their whole lives.

Haute Cuisine and "foodie" culture attempt to add sophistication to a system of food insecurity, GMO engineering, and environmental failure.

Basic human sustenance has been hyped to the point where food must be commodified for the elite and denied from the poor.
