My Hot Pink Box is a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the invasive, all-consuming nature of The Male Gaze. Here, the Male Gaze is deliberately appealed to in order to seduce and consume in return. The work is very much a Frankenstein's Monster that has become self-aware and prepared to consume its creator. There are references to feminist artists such as Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger, Dana Birnbaum, and Yoko Ono. The pop culture media elements have been deconstructed to present the female characters as solitary personalities, forcing the viewer to consider their plot and circumstance of her, rather than wait for the male protagonist to reenter the narrative.
The box itself is flourescent pink, roughly contructed, with a garbage bag in lieu of a black hole vortex between the viewer and the television set. Setting back the television deep within the box, combined with it set low on the ground, forces the viewer to leer in and participate in the voyeurism.
